Yogurt Rocks!(Health/Diet Benefits and 6 Recipes to Zoop it up)

Updated: Jun 29, 2019

Over the years people have come to realize the amazing benefits the almighty yogurt offers. It is rich in muscle building protein, can help you lose weight, fight the common cold and a whole lot more. Here's the whole scoop on yogurt and its many health benefits. Also at the end I will leave you with 6 awesome ways to spice up your yogurt.

One of the main Reasons I love yogurt(especially Greek) is its ability to aid in weight loss.Eating just 18 ounces a day can help you drop a size. Those who ate that amount along with cutting their calories lost 23% more weight and 81% More belly fat than dieters who didn't eat yogurt. They also retained 1/3 more lean muscle mass. Another great benefit is the bacteria it contains. Yogurt has live, active cultures which means it's a probiotic. Probiotics are live microorganisms which improve and restore stomach and digestive health by introducing new healthy bacteria. The bacteria help get rid of waste and harmful microorganisms. Now, many varieties contain special strains of probiotics which regulate your digestion and strengthen your immune system. Yogurt is also loaded with vitamins. One serving is rich in phosphorous, iodine, potassium, B5 and zinc. Also, yogurt is high in Vitamin B12 which helps maintain red blood cells and keeps your nervous system functioning well. And the best part...It tastes so good. Here are some great additions for your yogurt. I use greek yogurt but you can use your favorite.

Cinnamon Peach Yogurt

1 cup plain Greek yogurt. Add 1 diced peach and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Tropical Yogurt

1 cup Greek yogurt plain with 1 kiwi chopped and 1/3 cup pomegranate. Top with a handful of chopped almonds and/or pecans and unsweetened coconut flakes.

Crunchy Granola Parfait

Fill an 8-12 oz glass with alternating layers of plain Greek yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. Also you can top with a drizzle of honey or, if you used apples, a bit of caramel(tip: Fill mason jars with parfaits for quick grab-and-go snacks).

Chia Cereal Yogurt Bowl

1 cup plain Greek yogurt. Add 1/2 cup of whole-grain cereal and sprinkle with chia seeds(chai seeds are loaded with antioxidants, are high in protein and can aid in weight loss).

Maple Walnut Bowl

1 cup plain Greek yogurt. Top with a handful of walnuts and a drizzle of real maple syrup. (walnuts are a great source of Omega-3s and aid in weight loss because they can curb your appetite).

Cherry Vanilla Yogurt

Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to 1 cup plain Greek yogurt and stir. Finish with 1/4 cup mashed unsweetened cherries(preferably frozen).
